Abandoned Mangy Puppy Finds His Forever Home After One Year

Abandoned in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of a busy highway somewhere in rural Greece, Mel (in Greek we called him Melios) was spotted and rescued by volunteers. When he was first brought in he looked so fragile, that we almost did not know how to treat him. Continue reading Abandoned Mangy Puppy Finds His Forever Home After One Year

Rescuers Discover Something Amazing About This Rescue Dog

Rescuers have seen almost everything in Greece, so nothing can surprise us anymore. There was something off about Oscar since day one, but then again, there was nothing wrong with him either. He was rescued from the streets of Greece by Save a Greek Stray in April 2016. Only one year old, he had to survive among a pack of stray dogs that would constantly bully and terrorize him. He arrived at the shelter very sick – leishmaniasis, mange, ehrichia, you name it. Continue reading Rescuers Discover Something Amazing About This Rescue Dog

Three-Legged Kittens Will Make You Rethink Everything You Knew About Disability

Three-legged? – Poor thing. This is the main response we get from most people when adoption albums of amputated dogs and cats are published and not much else. Don’t get me wrong – there are some amazing people out there who focus on anything but what they see, when choosing which animal to adopt. But they are not a lot. Murdering Greek Strays In Larissa – Nominated European Cultural Capital of 2021

Murdering the strays is one of Greece’s most common traditions, practiced by individuals and sometimes even by official channels. It is a method of population control that has been going on for generations, and no matter how much animal lovers and charities try their best to protect the innocent, it is simply never enough. Being involved in Animal Welfare in Greece is never easy, but dealing with mass murder every day can make you sick. Vacation With Your Dog – How To Make It Work

Vacation! Yippi dippy doo! It’s this time of the year, for you. But is it for your dog?  Well, not really. Pet dogs are on vacation 24/7 so they don’t really need a break from anything actually. They do love to know new places, but for a dog that can only mean walking him round a different block or park every day. Their world is their nose and as much as you think they appreciate that picturesque village or that beautiful beach you take them to, they don’t really – at least not the way you think they do. Continue reading Vacation With Your Dog – How To Make It Work

French Bulldog And Her Weird Best Friends

There’s definitely something about my French Bulldog, Laura. I am not sure what it is exactly, but there is something about her that makes her special – at least when compared to other dogs. I adopted her at the age of two and a half and she’s been by my side for five years now – and when I say by my side, I literally mean by my side. She’s always there, sleeping beside me, sitting next to me, being there on every vacation and holiday, for better or worse. Continue reading French Bulldog And Her Weird Best Friends

Blind Rescue Kittens Find Their Dream Homes

Blind rescue kittens are like mangy starving dogs in Greece – you can never rescue too many, you can never rescue them all. Respiratory and eye infections are so common in stray cats, that every time we rescue a healthy seeing kitten we almost can’t believe it. Virgil, Blinkin and Destiny were rescued in late May 2016 by SCARS and were fostered together by a volunteer. All three with severe eye infections that had cost them their vision – but not much else. Rescue Cat With Severe Injuries Becomes A Spoilt Prince

Frog’s story is as devastating and as sad as can be. Just another rescue cat found wandering around an urban area in southern Greece, dragging his hind leg, with a broken spine and severely malnourished. Who knows how long it would take him to simply give up on life. Continue reading Rescue Cat With Severe Injuries Becomes A Spoilt Prince

Stray Puppy Recovered From Mange Still Has A Long Way To Go

Some rescue stories get their happy end once the dogs are healed and recovered, and some others have a long way to go before they reach a happy end. Before – after can be awe-inspiring and amazing, but sometimes, behind the incredible photos and the “I can’t believe it’s the same dog photos” there’s a lot more than just the rescue dog’s appearance that needed time and effort improve.
