Since domestic abuse is directed toward the powerless, animal abuse and child abuse often go hand in hand. Parents who neglect an animal’s need for proper care or who abuse animals might also abuse or neglect their own children.

Animal cruelty often reveals a contempt for life in general and reporting animal abuse cases and forcing the authorities to investigate may often help save other vulnerable members in the family, such as children, women and the elderly.
