Breeding as a word alone brings nothing but a shiver down the spine, if you have the slightest idea about pet overpopulation and the conditions most female dogs live in, in order to deliver purebred puppies twice per year, for “customers” to “consume”.
Bella’s rescue video:
Breeding as a word alone brings nothing but a shiver down the spine
Bella was a female dog used for breeding. Probably an Italian Coarse Haired Hound, she was used to deliver purebred hunting puppies for her previous owner to sell and profit from. Her story is just one of the millions, making Bella one of the luckiest breeding dogs ever, since she made it to the rescue and to her forever home.
The sight of her genitals was gruesome
Bella was found on the streets of a suburb of Athens, Greece. Wandering alone and feeding off the garbage, her condition was more than alarming. The sight of her genitals was gruesome, she appeared to have some kind of dermatological problems, that made her scratch like crazy, and she was one of the saddest dogs ever.
the damage to her entire organism seemed to be irreversible.
She was rescued by a SCARS volunteer, and her journey back to life began. Bella suffered from mange, which is what caused her that terrible itch. Over breeding had left her genitals destroyed, and had also caused her severe intestinal and hormonal problems. Bella suffered from exhausting diarrheas for months, and the damage to her entire organism seemed to be irreversible.
and the most important of all, she recovered psychologically.
Bella was fostered by the volunteer who rescued her, and started her treatment immediately. She was on a special diet for months, she recovered from mange and the most important of all, she recovered psychologically.
In just a few months, Bella want from being a sad, confused creature, to becoming everything you could look for in a pet dog. Human centered, dog friendly, sweet and very trainable, Bella made us all fall in love with her. She proved out to be one of those dogs that can actually teach any person out there, how easy and amazing it can be to be a dog owner.

Months after her rescue, Bella flew to her forever home in Holland – far away from the land that hurt her and cast her aside. Her new mum adores her, and Bella adores her new mum. She now spends her days as a beloved pet, taking long walks in the forest with her friends, lying on the sofa and being spoilt as deserved.
