Dear Mum – A Happy Dog Behind A Sad Story

I wrote the text one morning, about a month ago. I was just scrolling down my Facebook wall, and the number of dogs in need of a home were so many, that I just felt helpless. When you follow Greek animal welfare pages and rescue groups, you are just overwhelmed. New rescues and adoption albums keep popping up every minute; you don’t know what to share, where to help and how to make things better. Continue reading Dear Mum – A Happy Dog Behind A Sad Story

Grooming At The Shelter – Extreme Makeovers In One Hour

Grooming is one of the things us volunteers have to do. It might not be the typical grooming, as you have it in mind (like preparing a Poodle Standard for a dog show for example), but the results can be unbelievably amazing – and we are given a chance to even have fun! Volunteering In Animal Welfare – Things To Do

Volunteering in Animal Welfare, rescue groups and shelters can range from spending a couple of hours per week to having your whole life turned around. Killer Rottweilers On Death Row Up For Adoption

Killer Rottweilers are up for adoption by the public shelter that took them in about a month ago, after two of them attacked and killed a five year old boy. The incident happened on May 1, Easter day in Greece. The boy and his family were visiting a friend’s house, the boy was left unattended for a while, and a few minutes later he was beaten to death by two out of the eight dogs that lived in the property. The owner was arrested, all eight dogs were removed from him, were placed in a public shelter and were given less than a month to be adopted until they are put down. The deadline is in two days, May 25. Continue reading Killer Rottweilers On Death Row Up For Adoption

Dog Adoption And Common Misundersandings

I’m guessing they were offended, so I think I should make some things clear. First of all, we almost never talk to people this way – at least I don’t. Do we have these thoughts? Yes we do. But if things are going to change some day, we are the ones who need to help the public see things in a different perspective, so we try our best to be polite. The Dog Shelter – Where Dreams Hatch Back to Life

I had been following the Save a Greek Stray Facebook page for a couple of years. I used to volunteer at another organization, but the SGS posts were so jaw dropping that every time a new photo made it’s way to my facebook wall I couldn’t help but thinking: “oh, if only I was there, if only there was something for me to do there”. You know that feeling when you’re in a pretty stable relationship but every time you bump into the gorgeous neighbor you get butterflies? That was me and the gorgeous neighbor was the Save a Greek Stray. And the first time I knew I was in love, was when Petra’s first photo was posted. I fell in love with her, and she made me fall in love with the SGS.
