Neglected is an understatement probably. Meet “Snoopy”, who was found this afternoon tied outside a volunteer’s front gate in Athens, Greece, along with a brand new collar and a ridiculous note.
“MY NAME IS SNOOPY
MY MUM DIED (SHE WAS 80 YEARS OLD)
I AM OLD TOO…
HELP HAVE A GOOD OLD AGE
MAY GOD BLESS YOU”
This is all the information we have about Snoopy. But we don’t really need more. His general image screams neglect (borderline abuse actually). Whether he was neglected by his 80 year old mum, or by her relatives does not really matter. Maybe she didn’t even have relatives. Maybe she was one of those lonely old people, whose only companion is their pet.
Snoopy is very old. What’s left of his hair is a matted, dirty ball that smells horribly, and when he tries to walk, he steps on the “dreadlock” hanging from his left ear, he stumbles and falls. When you open his mouth, you see no teeth, just plaque – so much of it that makes you wonder how is that possible.

He is deaf, blind and weighs 4 kilos. And he is confused. He is so confused that he never stops walking. He walks in circles, going back and forth back and forth, never raising his face from the ground. Smell is the only sense he has left, and he tries to smell the world around him, to understand where he is.
We still know nothing about the state of his health. But we know one thing. Snoopy is safe. He is a foster home and he will be spending the time he has left as he deserves.
This is the last time I am calling him Snoopy. We will change his name, and help him leave his past life behind, along with the matted hair. If you wish, you can donate to SCARS via PayPal (firstname.lastname@example.org). You can follow his progress in the charity’s facebook page.
