Pit Bulls… poor, sad Pit Bulls suffer so much in the hands of ignorant, disgusting people. For obvious reasons, they attract the worst of the worst and they are treated like killing machines by people bragging about it. While all they need is to be around people and be treated as family members, the “characteristics” of the breed (at least the ones some people choose to focus one) are their enemy.
So, sweet Lara is a Pit Bull. A Pit Bull unlucky enough, like most of them, to end up in the hand of the wrong people. No one know who her owner was, but there must be hundreds of thousands of people so far that have wished the worst for him.
Lara got pregnant. And while pregnant, she was left chained, in the middle of nowhere, in the foster of a village near Nafplion, to give birth alone, without food, water or shelter. It was a month ago, when the climate in Greece was going crazy, changing form heavy rains to terrible heat from one day to another.
And near that tree, chained, exposed in the elements, without food, without water, without anyone human enough to untie her, Lara gave birth, survived, and managed to keep her puppies alive for ten whole days, until the rescuers finally got to her.
Her rescuer’s first post about her made an entire country cry, it was shared thousands of times and had us lose our faith in humanity completely. Lara was dehydrated, starving and in shock, and her puppies malnourished. One of them did not make it unfortunately.
Miraculously, Lara is healthy. After a few days, she started eating well and gaining strength. She is an amazing mum who is now in the care of Linda. The puppies are growing and Lara can finally care for them, without being worried about anything at all.
I met them last week and I fell in love. The little ones are indescribably cute and Lara is a loving, cuddly dog. And gorgeous. She is gorgeous! Trusting and loving people, probably having no idea that us, the ones petting and loving her belong to the same species responsible for her ten day ordeal.
She is a dog, you know. The kind of dog that would wag her tail for her owner, if she saw him again.
The puppies just opened their eyes a couple of weeks ago. In about a month from now, they will be ready for their forever home, so will their mum, after she is spayed. For now, she is providing us with “aww” moments, priceless “aww” moments!
