Sick, mangy, starving and left in a cardboard box for a sucker to find, foster, treat and rehome – this is getting ridiculously familiar. Pet abandonment here is like a tradition. Actually no, it’s not a tradition – in tradition you know you have other options, but you just choose to follow it.
Pet abandonment in most people’s minds is simply the thing to do. Just like it is normal for us to take our sick dog to the vet, it is normal for them to put their sick dog (or their sick dog’s sick puppies) in the car, drive somewhere, drop them off and come back home without them.
The town of Nafpactos is notorious for the number of abandoned dogs that don’t get to live more than a couple of months on the streets. You see it’s also notorious for its pet overpopulation control tactics (poison) and even for some more original ideas of getting rid of dogs and cats (hanged, shot and drowned alive).
The local volunteers are struggling to make ends meet, and every new case of abuse, abandonment and neglect seems to be the straw that will break the camel’s back – however they keep going…
The three puppies were left in a cardboard box. They are sick with mange and are receiving treatment. They are being fostered in the balcony of a volunteer’s house, because there is simply no other place for them to go, and once they recover they will be looking for their forever homes.
If you wish to help the volunteers, you can message their Facebook page, so they can provide you with the clinic’s PayPal.
