Mange Dog Feeding Off Corpses To Survive – Shadow’s Rescue

Mange is terrible – well not at the beginning. It looks terrible when at this stage, and it’s not just the “turn to stone” effect and the loss of hair. It’s the fact that you know how this animal kept being overlooked, while it got sicker and sicker, until it reached a point where it resembled a dead body more than a living being. Sunday Morning For A Dog Rescuer – Mission: Puppies

Sunday is supposed to be something like “sleep until you’re hungry, then eat until you’re sleepy”, right? Well, not if you are a dog rescuer, a volunteer, or involved in animal welfare in any way. If you are any of the above, Sunday is when you are busier than ever. Continue reading Sunday Morning For A Dog Rescuer – Mission: Puppies

Swimming Therapy For Rescue Dog Hit By Car

Swimming ah physiotherapy will be helping Joy gain back her smile. On October 4, 2016, in a suburb of Athens, Greece, she was hit by a car and left there, on the side of the road, to suffer in agony and pain, until the rescuers got to her. It’s hard to tell if she was recently abandoned or just lost, but nobody has come forward to claim her so far, and I don’t think anyone ever will. There are no official statistics, but judging from experience, one out of two “pet” dogs in Greece spends its entire life chained, and dies without ever being exercised, socialized, or even petted. One of those dogs was Lefteris, which is Greek for “free.” At least that’s what SPAZ, the charity that rescued him called him. Starved And Sick Pit Bull Rescued Too Late

Spirit’s rescue

Starved, sick -very sick actually, partially blind and abandoned, Spirit was rescued literally at the last minute. He was spotted by a woman near one of Athens’ richest areas, Glyfada, who posted two photos of him on Facebook, begging for help. According to her, the dog’s owner’s kept him tied 24/7, until they left for their summer vacation, and decided to let him loose. Their future plans were to put him to sleep, once they got back, so that “he wouldn’t suffer”. Continue reading Starved And Sick Pit Bull Rescued Too Late

Stray Puppy Recovered From Mange Still Has A Long Way To Go

Some rescue stories get their happy end once the dogs are healed and recovered, and some others have a long way to go before they reach a happy end. Before – after can be awe-inspiring and amazing, but sometimes, behind the incredible photos and the “I can’t believe it’s the same dog photos” there’s a lot more than just the rescue dog’s appearance that needed time and effort improve. Rescuers Burst Into City Hall With Rescue Puppy

What is a sick rescue puppy, it’s rescuers and a camera doing in the City Hall? Well, here’s the thing: Greece is most definitely corrupt, beaurocratic and nerve-racking. Every single day we have to fight for what should be taken for granted in any civilized country out there. Citizens keep being disappointed as the systems keeps us trapped in a vicious circle we can’t escape from. Continue reading Rescuers Burst Into City Hall With Rescue Puppy
