Animals in Greece this week started as a crazy idea, and now I am addicted. With more and more stories piling up every week, the situation is so ridiculous that irony and sarcasm seem the only way to deal with all that.

Dog rescue…ahhh…if you are into dog rescue you see everything, you see the best and the worst of humanity, you go into people’s homes, spend time at police stations, courts the streets, you talk and talk to random people on the street and generally, you have a pretty good picture of the society you live in.
It’s almost been a month since I brought Lou back from that beach, and I want him to find his forever home as soon as possible. Not because he is more special than all the others, but because he is ready, he was always ready.
I know what you are thinking, “poor stray dog, it got sick and nobody would help him”. Meh… Very sick dogs like Prince Rhaegar (as the charity named him) don’t just appear out of nowhere one day, on the streets of a city.

Sick, mangy, starving and left in a cardboard box for a sucker to find, foster, treat and rehome – this is getting ridiculously familiar. Pet abandonment here is like a tradition. Actually no, it’s not a tradition – in tradition you know you have other options, but you just choose to follow it.

I’m not sure what’s with the myth about a cat’s nine lives – or seven, like we say in Greek and apparently in Spanish. But the truth is one, and this video that someone recommended makes it more clear than ever.
It is very difficult for any creator to make its audience laugh and cry, within only a few minutes. The video is in Spanish, but even if you don’t speak the language, the animation will help you understand the story. It’s the story of almost every cat, in seven lives – the seventh being the story of my Cinnamon and the most devastating of all for me.
The bottom line is one, as Patukos, the animated cat says it in the end:
‘For you, we are “something”, merchandise, a toy, fun. But you know what? I am not “something”, I am “someone” (…) and of course, I only have one life. A life that I love because it’s my life, my fuckin’ life. My only life”.
