I have said this before, stray dogs in Greece are on death row. Greece is supposedly a no kill country, and there is a live and let live type of tolerance when it comes to stray dogs here, that are millions.
Before you stop reading, this is not a troll article! It happened, and it happened in 2018, in Messinia, Greece. Yes, this is how the authorities reward the rescuers here that pay money out of their own pockets to feed and care for stray animals that the state simply ignores.
I have said that before, but those of you don’t remember or don’t know, disposing of puppies and kittens this was is a traditional way of population control here in Greece, and other parts of the world. No, we do not spay. Well, few of us do. Very few.
This is not the first time this happens here, and it won’t be the last. Hanged dogs are a common thing, and the one and only reason I do not share these stories so often here is because it will ruin your day for no reason.
There is something special about Greek animal welfare, and it’s the frequency and variety of horror stories it keeps providing every single day. I mean, seriously, this never stops.
I am in my hometown, a small village by the sea, with aspirations of becoming a holiday resort during the summer. It’s where I found my sweet Blue two years ago, roaming alone on the beach.
Disaster brings out our inner rescuer, it’s just the way it is. This year’s fires in Athens were a tragedy, and the number of homes burned and lives lost was unprecedented.
This video is nothing but a tribute to all the innocent animals that suffered and died during the tragedy. This year’s fires were the deadliest of the decade. Too many lives were lost unnecessarily, as people, pets, strays and wild animals were trapped in fields, houses and cars with no way out.
