This one of the rescue stories that shocked us all last year. Animal abuse in Greece is nothing new, but some stories are just too much, and Odin’s was one of them.
Odin was found in a dam-like construction, somewhere in rural Greece, near a village in Nafplion. The water in the tank was up to his shoulder and his legs were tied together, making it impossible for him to move and save himself.
Odin was saved from death by a local rescuer, Stelios. He was in poor condition, malnourished and hypothermic. Soon after his rescue, he was taken in by Linda, and made a full recovery under her care.
The rescuers here in Greece had named him Freddie, but when he moved to his forever home in the Netherlands in November 2017, his family called him Odin, which means “a new beginning, unexpected strength in difficult situations” – wand what a fitting name that is!
Odin had fully recovered physically, but not mentally. It took the family two weeks to take him on his first walk outside. He was afraid of everything in the beginning, but patience and love got him where he is today.
Today Odin is a gorgeous, loving and happy dog. He loves his humans, his new home and his teddy bear. He loves his walks outside, he loves to run and to be groomed and petted.
For his abuser here in Greece, Odin was a piece of trash, that deserved to die in a horrible way, but for his family, Odin is an angel, and they keep thanking the rescuers for bringing him to them.
Odin has his very own instagram page, where he shares his new life, and his daily adventures. You can follow him here. If you wish to support Linda, the woman who fostered him and helped him find his forever family, you can make a small donation here.
And don’t forget, dogs like Odin die on the streets of Greece every day. Very few get as lucky as he did. The more we raise awareness, the more precious lives will be saved.
