I have said that before, but those of you don’t remember or don’t know, disposing of puppies and kittens this was is a traditional way of population control here in Greece, and other parts of the world. No, we do not spay. Well, few of us do. Very few.
Imagine a perfect dog, A dog that can be happy and funny, and social and active and yet that sleepy and quiet in busy places, surrounded by people and dogs. A dog that likes the beach, and dog park and walking the streets on leash. A dog that is perfect with other dogs, and children and people, hat is trusting and loyal and playful and a pro when it comes to selfies. A dog you can take shoping, driving , swimming or just chilling.
The tragedy of the wildfires in Greece this summer were the deadliest the country has seen in more than a decade, and had a huge impact on the public that rushed to help.
Disaster brings out our inner rescuer, it’s just the way it is. This year’s fires in Athens were a tragedy, and the number of homes burned and lives lost was unprecedented.
This video is nothing but a tribute to all the innocent animals that suffered and died during the tragedy. This year’s fires were the deadliest of the decade. Too many lives were lost unnecessarily, as people, pets, strays and wild animals were trapped in fields, houses and cars with no way out.

Charlie was rescued from a horrible place, where apart from the existing strays, it is infamous because there are dog owners who actually drive there, to abandon their unwanted dogs, and come back without them.
So, while I was walking my dog this morning, I heard this desperate meow, coming form somewhere near a garbage bin. And every rescuer in Greece knows what this means.
The Penny Marathon started as an idea of two Greek-Australians. They were not runners, and had certainly never thought to run a marathon before, but they felt compelled to do something to bring attention to the plight of stray, abandoned, neglected and abused companion animals.
Who knows what Bella’s true story is. Was she an abandoned pet? Was she feral to begin with, born on the streets? Was she a sheepdog, working in the fields until she got sick and dumped? With dogs like her you never know, and usually, you simply don’t care.
