This will be short. And ridiculous. Blog posts are for me the only way to lay off steam sometimes, so here is my story from today:
Disaster brings out our inner rescuer, it’s just the way it is. This year’s fires in Athens were a tragedy, and the number of homes burned and lives lost was unprecedented.
For most of us, even a couple of days away from our dogs seem like a lifetime. We think about them, we want to be with them, squeeze them and spoil them. And that’s ok. Being away for a couple of days is ok. But being away for longer?
Pet dogs (pet being a euphemism actually, but what else can you call them?) are not as important as personal items, clothes and cars – at least not for many of the people who got caught up in the massive fires that burned a huge part of the northern outskirts of Athens last month.
Very big dogs are probably the most underestimated and misunderstood of all dogs – at least here in Greece. The common perception about them is that they need “space”.

Dog owners mostly consider themselves a pack, a small society within the society, that only have each other to support, rely on and respect. Threatened by the non-dog owners (those weird people who …don’t have a dog!), most dog owners will see another dog owner as someone they can trust. Donkey’s World has been my “go to” place for quite some time now. In a country like Greece, where donkey’s are either considered an “old school” useless tool, replaced by all terrain cars and basically going extinct, or being exploited for profit, and serving as a tourist attraction, Donkey’s world is like a an oasis in the desert. Dog adoption. It sounds nice, but for most of us it’s a headache. Choosing the right family is one big challenge and we face it every day. Many people didn’t really like this video. I’m guessing they were offended, so I think I should make some things clear. First of all, we almost never talk to people this way – at least I don’t. Do we have these thoughts? Yes we do. But if things are going to change some day, we are the ones who need to help the public see things in a different perspective, so we try our best to be polite.
